Information Technology Security & Network Engineer

Under limited supervision, the Security and Network Engineer installs, configures and supports the Authority’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems. Responsible for the availability, reliability, performance, security and maintenance of the Authority’s Enterprise and SCADA network infrastructure. This includes future design, implementations and operational support for all security and network related initiatives as it relates to the Authority. Reports to the Director of IT.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related degree, an Associates Degree in Electronics with five to seven years’ experience in an IT system or a High School Diploma with seven to ten years’ experience in IT systems.
  • Experience includes utilizing troubleshooting techniques and knowledge involving computers, networking, software, fiber optic networks, security, and communications equipment.
  • Experience in managing IT projects.
  • In-depth, functional, broad-based knowledge of security practices and networking.
  • Prefer two years of experience with maintaining governmental information systems.
  • Prefer Network+, Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) or any network security certifications.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly with all departments and employees to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MECHANIC I

 

Under general supervision is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment including tractors, trailers, generators, excavators, pumps as well as all fleet vehicles. Assists Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining all required records of maintenance work, and repair information, etc.   Orders parts and helps maintain inventory.  Reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a vocational/technical school program in auto/truck mechanics, and a minimum of two years’ experience dealing with auto and truck repair and maintenance, small engines and hydraulics or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have the ability to read and write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Must possess ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Requires computer experience in Microsoft Office Products with the ability to use software used by the Authority.
  • Must possess or obtain within one year of hire certification in at least two mechanical areas by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in a core area such as brakes, engines, preventive maintenance, or tires.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.

SCADA ADMINISTRATOR

Under limited supervision, works directly with the BJWSA Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, to assist and optimize the operations and maintenance of the water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems. The primary goal of the position is to insure complete functionality of the SCADA system and oversee system upgrades and improvements. Interfaces with vendors, plant personnel, inter-department personnel, and management. Reports to the Director of Maintenance & Military Programs.

Requirements:

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree in Electronics or related technology with five (5) years’ experience in an instrumentation/SCADA / Information Technologies systems field, or High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the Information Technologies / SCADA / Electronics or related systems area.
  • A working knowledge of Windows based computer operating systems to include server / client application.
  • A working knowledge of field I/O devices and access and control concepts.
  • A working knowledge of low voltage (<600 volts) electrical work and its safety hazards.
  • Knowledge of SCADA applications in an industrial facility especially in the area of water &wastewater plant operations.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and programming techniques involving Allen Bradley PLC’s, Modicon PLC’s, field I/O devices, access and control, wiring, fiber optic networks, MDS radio communications equipment, and server/client workstations application.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and demonstrate project management skills in working with user departments and Information Technology.
  • Must have a basic understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and security requirements.
  • Must be fluent with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint as well as email & file sharing applications.
  • Must possess or complete BJWSA sponsored training in confined space entry, bloodborne pathogen, hazardous material, first aide/CPR, forklift operations, crane operations, and lockout-tagout within two years of hire.
  • Ability to climb & work on structures up to or exceeding 200ft.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Starting Salary: $24.32/hr. to $30.40/hr. (depending on qualifications) + great benefits package to include S.C. Water Operator II, III or IV

Under limited supervision, operates the Surface Water Treatment plant(s), ground water systems, and Aquifer Storage and Recovery systems in accordance with applicable SCDHEC regulations. Performs a variety of duties involving treatment plant operations, distribution systems operations, instrumentation calibration, equipment monitoring and preventative maintenance, and administrative tasks. During the off hours, monitors the operations of BJWSA’s wastewater treatment plants and collections systems using BJWSA’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.   Designated when necessary as Lead Operator and acts independently and autonomously during shift by performing higher degree of treatment functions. Requires shift work. Reports to the Chief Water Operator.

Requires:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to four years’ experience as an operator of a public water treatment facility.
  • Must possess a S.C. Class C, B or A (prefer class A) Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Must have the ability to operate a variety of equipment and instruments used in plant operations.       Must possess basic mechanic skills to perform equipment checks and preventative maintenance and complete instrument calibration.
  • Computer experience in Excel, Word and the ability to learn software used by BJWSA. Must possess or obtain training in confined space entry, work zone safety, HAZMAT safety, first aid/CPR and forklift operations.

Starting Salary: $17.43/hr to $21.62/hr, depending on qualifications + excellent benefits package to include S.C. Retirement System, 401k, generous leave programs, medical, dental, vision, life & disability insurance, an entrenched safety culture, developing wellness initiative, numerous employee recognition forums, extensive talent development opportunities, and a collaborative team and family type atmosphere.
