Senior Meter Reader

 Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties related to customer service and meter reading. Reads and records water meter readings along an assigned route that initiates billings for utility customers.  Receives work from and reports to the Revenue and Billing Supervisor, but works independently when out on the assigned route.

Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Requires six months experience in customer service, pipeline construction, or as a meter reader or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations.
  • Requires experience in Microsoft Office with the ability to use software used by the Authority. Ability to operator two-way radio, PC, printer, copier, fax machine, 10-key calculator and postage meter.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Under general supervision, performs duties related to the operation of the water and wastewater laboratory according to South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) regulations. Performs a variety of work involving the chemical and biological analysis of water and wastewater.

Requirements:

  • Requires an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field. Must have a minimum of one year experience in water and wastewater laboratory operations, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must possess computer skills, instrumentation skills, and have the ability to read and write and perform basic statistical calculations.
  • Must possess the ability to operate a variety of lab equipment and instruments used in plant operations such as pH/ISE meter, turbidimeter, Atomic Absorption spectrometer, GC/MS, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Reports to the Laboratory and Water Quality Manager.

MECHANIC I

Under general supervision is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment including tractors, trailers, generators, excavators, pumps as well as all fleet vehicles. Assists Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining all required records of maintenance work, and repair information, etc.   Orders parts and helps maintain inventory.  Reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a vocational/technical school program in auto/truck mechanics, and a minimum of two years’ experience dealing with auto and truck repair and maintenance, small engines and hydraulics or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have the ability to read and write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Must possess ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Requires computer experience in Microsoft Office Products with the ability to use software used by the Authority.
  • Must possess or obtain within one year of hire certification in at least two mechanical areas by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in a core area such as brakes, engines, preventive maintenance, or tires.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.

Water Operator II, III or IV

Under limited supervision, operates the Surface Water Treatment plant(s), ground water systems, and Aquifer Storage and Recovery systems in accordance with applicable SCDHEC regulations. Performs a variety of duties involving treatment plant operations, distribution systems operations, instrumentation calibration, equipment monitoring and preventative maintenance, and administrative tasks. During the off hours, monitors the operations of BJWSA’s wastewater treatment plants and collections systems using BJWSA’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.   Designated when necessary as Lead Operator and acts independently and autonomously during shift by performing higher degree of treatment functions. Requires shift work. Reports to the Chief Water Operator.

Requires:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to four years’ experience as an operator of a public water treatment facility.
  • Must possess a S.C. Class C, B or A (prefer class A) Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Must have the ability to operate a variety of equipment and instruments used in plant operations.       Must possess basic mechanic skills to perform equipment checks and preventative maintenance and complete instrument calibration.
  • Computer experience in Excel, Word and the ability to learn software used by BJWSA. Must possess or obtain training in confined space entry, work zone safety, HAZMAT safety, first aid/CPR and forklift operations.

Starting Salary: $17.43/hr to $21.62/hr, depending on qualifications + excellent benefits package to include S.C. Information Technology Network Administrator

Under limited supervision, the Network Administrator installs, configures, and supports the Authority’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system. Primary support of Authority’s enterprise IP network infrastructure, as well as responsibility for network health, security and performance. Manages all routers, firewalls, IDS/IPS devices, as well as all other data/IP networking related equipment.  Monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. May monitor and test Web site performance to ensure Web sites operate correctly and without interruption. Provides Tier 2 support to the organization. Responds to emergency situations during off-hours as required. Reports to the Director of IT.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related degree, an Associates Degree in Electronics with three to five years’ experience in an IT system or a High School Diploma with five to seven years’ experience in IT systems.
  • Experience includes utilizing troubleshooting techniques and knowledge involving computers, networking, software, fiber optic networks, security, and communications equipment.
  • Experience includes managing IT projects.
  • Must have in-depth, functional, broad-based knowledge of security practices and networking.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly with all departments and employees to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Prefer two years of experience with maintaining governmental information systems.
  • Must possess Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching or equivalent certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Starting Salary: $1,945.60 bi-wkly to $2,918.40 bi-wkly (depending on qualifications), + excellent benefits package to include S.C.
